The classic modern bar set, coffee and tea service the Cylinda-Line was created when stepson of Arne Jacobsen Peter Holmblad took over as director of the Danish stainless steel tabletop manufacture Stelton. Holmblad wanted to create a new Danish design brand. Jacobsen’s the plan for the Stelton Cylinda-Line was to create a tea and coffee service, as well as bowls, an ice bucket and pitchers for the dining table or bar. Naturally they would be manufactured in Stelton stainless steel. The new Cylinda-Line series was immediately recognized as a major shift toward innovation within the tabletop accessory world. The simplicity of cylindrical shapes and the distinctive shaped handles characterized the line, along with its brushed steel surfaces, as a modern man’s cocktail or coffee and tea set. Jacobsen who was already considered Denmark’s greatest Architect designed for Stelton an instant modern tableware classic possibly unrealized before. Jacobsen painstakingly designed each piece in the Cylinda-Line in correlation to each other piece to achieve and most importantly assure a harmonious table setting. Additionally serene feeling evoked by the use of stainless steel further enhanced each pieces exceptional function when used. The Cylinda-Line for Stelton was launched in 1967 and compared to everything else on the market it looked, felt and preformed like it was from the future. It was such a success that from its very beginning customers started referring to it as Stelton’s Famous Cylinda-Line.
