Johanna Grawunder, originally from San Diego, CA., studied architecture at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, and completed her qualification with a final year in Florence. In the early 1980's, Memphis was making waves in the Design world, and its spirit and styled lured Grawunder to Milan, and in turn was given a job by Memphis founder, Ettore Sottsass.
