Tapio Wirkkala spent thousands of hours perfecting the glass-blowing technique required to produce the effect on the iittala Ultima Thule glassware. The distinctive classic from the 1960s, some say evoke scenes of glaciers or melting ice, gets it molten texture in the glass making process. The iittala Ultima Thule glass pattern gradually changse as the glass burns the surface of the wooden moulds.
