The Minimalist's Table

Call it Melrose Heights. A section of town at the intersection of Melrose and Cresent Heights is emerging as a design destination. Among six stores in this area to open this month is Fitzsu Society, below, owned by Fitz and Su Sazama. Fitzsu sell contemporary housewares by Droog, Pure and Alessi, among others. Shown, Hackman cutlery by Antonio Citterio (from $24 to $79). Fitzsu Society is at 7970 Melrose Avenue, 323.655.1908. Arp, is a few blocks away on West Third near Cresent Heights. It's a minimalist store selling delicate, hand-crafted pieces by four artisans: Alison Berger (whose glassware is shown, with prices ranging from $165 to $1,100), Ted Muehling, Gabriella Kiss and Vibe Harslof. Arp is owned by William Hermsen and Joany Lee, who were both formerly on staff at Dosa, a fashion and design company. Arp is at 83111/2 West Third Street, 323.653.7764.
