It is always nice to receive recognition for innovative design that successfully combines the functional and the aesthetic. normann copenhagen has done it again, receiving "The reddot design award 2007" stamp of quality for the Storm flowerpot by Julie Storm, Francis Cayouette's normann knives and the Familia kitchen series designed by Ole Jensen. The annual reddot design award is one of the biggest international design awards, with 52 countries represented and on average 6000 products competing for this prestigious honour. Since 1995, a jury of designers and design experts has judged designs based on criteria such as degree of innovation, character qualities and function. Since 2002, normann copenhagen has consolidated its position as a company willing to take risks in the world of design, and the reddot design award is the 24th design award that normann copenhagen has received in just five years. The first product, the Norm 69 lamp, was introduced in 2002, since when in the space of just five years normann copenhagen has established itself as a central player on the international design scene. To understand the products, it is important to understand that normann copenhagen is a special way of looking at design. Like putting on a pair of glasses and seeing the world in a particular way. Through these glasses, products are developed such as Ole Jensen's simple kitchen series, Julie Storm's elegant flowerpot and Francis Cayouette's knives with the perfect balance. In developing the normann knives the focus was on ergonomics, as they function as an extension of the arm. The normann knives are an example of good, functional industrial design rooted in user-friendliness that creates a good user experience. The knives are deeply expressive, and the rounded design of the handle forms a contrast with the sleek blade and at the same time gives a perfect balance. In Ole Jensen's Familia kitchen series, the special and the commonplace have become merged into one. The series exudes warmth and appetite, and serves as both essential equipment for the oven and a warm design for the dinner table. The rounded, unrefined design is rooted in a long design tradition that dates back over 4000 years. Storm - a flowerpot that holds water - is a new, functional product that was inspired by a problem. Unlike other flowerpots, with Storm you can avoid over-watering your plants. Storm also has an aesthetic expression that refines the visual relation between flower and pot. We are celebrating the three winners of the reddot design award with a special reddot CD-ROM.
