iittala is actually several individual Scandinavian tableware manufacturers including Arabia, Hackman, Iittala, and Rörstrand. In the U.S. all of these brands are sold under the name iittala and representing the best in modern design. Iittala was created in 1881, when a glass factory opened in a small Finnish village named iittala. This is where the company's design heritage began and where Alvar Aalto's world-renowned Aalto vase, is still produced. Today Iittala is a leading modern home décor design company, and offers a wide range of products representing the best in modern Scandinavian design. Iittala is an internationally recognized brand for its Scandinavian Design icons such as the marimekko kivi votives, iittala essence glassware, toika birds and the iittala collective tools. Iittala works with a verity of designers and architects including Marimekko, Alvar Aalto, Antonio Citterio, Timo Sarpaneva and Renzo Piano. Fitz and Su own many iittala products and use them in their own home.
